andrewlam:

Fun Fact: In the 1936 Olympics, two Japanese pole vaulters and close friends tied for the Silver Medal. Unable to break the tie for 5 hours of fierce competition, the two friends had their Silver and Bronze medals cut in half and welded together to form a pair of mixed medals. These became known as the Medals of Eternal Friendship.
